the mass murders at sandy hook elementary school in connecticut, we have been looking at new information on gun sales year in maryland. barry simms as the latest numbers, and there is a noticeable increase? >> we have contacted maryland state police on the purchase of gun applications and it does appear that those numbers are on the rice. the bushmaster rifle that adam lanza used in the newtown, connecticut killings was legally owned by his mother. he shot her four times in the head before going to sandy hook elementary school and killing 20 children and six female educators. calls for increased school safety, and at the same time, gun sales are on the increase. in november, there were more than 7200 gun purchase applications filed peeping >> we are projecting that we're looking at over 8200 barack applications being processed. >> more than 46,000 applications were processed. at the end of 2012, state police project 62,000 applications will be handled. state troopers will not speculate on why. some reasons are apparent -- the holiday season, some lawmakers proposing changes to gun laws.

a total bust. courtesy of sandy, incredibly warm weather and, of course, the fear engendered by the serious issue that is the fiscal cliff. i see that weakness and i'm not crazy about these stocks, in general. but i think that the conclusion of the housing crisis is upon us. which means there will be more money going to building and fixing up homes in 2013 than there was in 2012. so that means there will be up comparisons, and that's good. there will be sure to buy housing-related play into the fiscal cliff jump if we get one next week. oh, and i'm including banks. they've really taken off here, too. in large part that is because the housing crisis is over. how about the rest of the world's growth? not that long ago we heard very smart short sellers write off both china and europe it was on a year ago that italy and greece would be following in disaster. of course, they subsequently turned out to be the single best places to invest for fixed income in the world. not only did the sky not fall, but you had to do some serious buying to keep up with the others around the world. t

less than a quarter inch of rain over the last few weeks. not much rain around here since sandy blew through. most of november was quite dry. our total for the month, just a trace. we're at almost pvents 6 of an inch. the yearly total is almost five inches below normal for the year. high temperatures today occurred just before 1:00. between midnight and 1:00 we were on the warm side of that front and the 51 degree low is the current temperature for the day. it is getting chillier. temperatures are down into the low and mid 40's. low 50's and you can kind of see the cold area coming in. 30's in oakland. 35 downtown. clear skies, northwest wind at 5 miles per hour and the sun went down a few minutes ago. 50's around here right now and it gets chillier as you head into cleveland. that is where the air is coming from. the core of the cold will pass far to our north as high pressure moves on by and on friday, the next warm front will actually be coming our way. this warm front is significant. look at the temperatures 68 in denver right now. it is going to be chilly for a couple of days, i

and the unimaginable damage from superstorm sandy and more. >>> we'll start with another winter storm getting ready to wallop a large swath of the country. maria larosa has the details. >> it places like arkansas just a few days ago under blizzard warnings. now we're talking about freezing rain advisories. also, the winter weather advisories. you see the advisories stretch back into the ohio valley, back into the northeast. that's basically the trail of the snow with this next system. so over the next 24 to 48 hours we'll see it develop. it will continue through the south with thunderstorms and showers. not to the extent of the severe weather with the last round, but you can see enough cold air you start to see the snow develop from ohio to pennsylvania. moving into d.c. overnight tonight, into philadelphia and new york by saturday morning and on up into boston by saturday afternoon. it's a quick mover. generally speaking, the snow totals will be on the light side. we'll start in the next 24 hours. ohio valley, indianapolis, you could end up with an additional 3 to 6 inches of snowfall. as it moves
